PUTHANKULANGARA BHAGAVATHY TEMPLE RENOVATION
 

In a general body meeting of devotees held on 26-06-2011, it was decided to renovate the sreekovil and valiyambalam of Bhadrakali temple due to its old age. A committee elected by the general body, Puthankulankulangara Bhagavathy Kshethra Punarudharana Samithy, was entrusted to execute the project by collecting fund from devotees. On 26-08-2011, the renovation of this temple was commenced under the direction and permission of Chief Priest of the temple, Brahmasree Puliyannoor Sasi Namboothiripad. The design and other structural details as per Vasthuvidhi of temples were developed by renowned temple architect, Brahmasree Kanippayyoor Krishnan Namboothiripad.

Accordingly, the sreekovil of the temple was designed to be constructed with RCC foundation, granite walls and wooden roofing covered with copper sheet. The valiyambalam of the temple was designed to be constructed with RCC foundation, laterite walls and wooden frame roofing with clay tile covering. The balikkalpura of the temple was designed to be covered with wooden frame. It was also decided to dig a holy water well near to the sreekovil for the exclusive use of water inside the temple.

The estimated cost worked out for the above project was Rs. 60 lakhs. As on 31-01-2013, about 2/3 rd portion of the work has been completed with the contributions collected from devotees. Now, the prathishta kalasam of the temple has been fixed for 14-07-2013, for which an additional expense of Rs. 10 lakhs is required.

The following offerings have been identified for contributions of devotees for the renovation of temple.

1. Sreekovil Samarpanam : Rs. 5000/-
2 Valiyambalam Samarpanam : Rs. 2000/-
3 Teak Wood Samarpanam : Rs. 1000/-
4 Copper Sheet Samarpanam : Rs. 500/-
5 Granite Samarpanam : Rs. 300/-

The following offerings have been identified for contributions of devotees for the prathishta kalasam of temple

1. Jeevakalasam : Rs. 10001/-
2 Brahmakalasam : Rs. 5001/-
3 Kumbhesakarkarikalasam : Rs. 3001/-
4 Nidrakalasam : Rs. 2001/-
5 Thathwakalasam : Rs. 1001/-
6 Parikalasam : Rs. 501/-

Purana’s says that people get very rare occasions in a life time to participate in events like renovation and prathishta kalasam of temples like this. The prathishta of this temple was done during 1675 by Mambattu Bhattathiri and the first renovation was carried out by Sakthan Thampuran during 1800. Hence, after a period of 213 years, we are lucky to have a chance to involve in the temple renovation activities. Devotees shall never lose occasions like this and are requested to participate and contribute for such a great event in their life time.

The previous projects such as renovation of Siva, Vishnu and Sastha temples during 2004 and dhwaja prathishta of 2008 was made into reality mainly due to the valuable contributions of devotees of the temple. Whatever portion of this project has been completed is mainly due to their valuable contributions. We, once again request all devotees to contribute maximum possible for the timely completion of the project.
